Surface Switch: Laykold Courts in Play
The 2025 BNP Paribas Open is officially underway, bringing world-class tennis back to the stunning backdrop of the Coachella Valley. Known as “Tennis Paradise,” Indian Wells Tennis Garden once again hosts the best in the game for 15 action-packed days, from March 2-16, drawing fans from across the globe to witness thrilling matches and historic moments.
15 Days of Action in Tennis Paradise
From the first qualifying round to the final championship point, the BNP Paribas Open delivers unmatched excitement in one of the sport’s most scenic venues. With pristine blue courts set against towering palm trees and the Santa Rosa Mountains, Indian Wells provides a breathtaking stage for the ATP and WTA’s elite.
Fans can enjoy world-class tennis and a luxurious spectator experience, featuring gourmet food offerings, interactive fan zones, and exclusive practice court access to watch their favorite stars up close. The atmosphere is electric, with thousands flocking to the desert to take in the game’s most prestigious Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 event outside of the Grand Slams.
Two-Time Champions Seek Historic Feats
Two-time Indian Wells champions Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz (picture above) return as the reigning BNP Paribas Open titleholders, aiming to cement their legacy in the tournament’s rich history. Swiatek, already a dominant force on the WTA Tour, is looking to become the first woman to claim three Indian Wells titles. Meanwhile, Alcaraz eyes a coveted three-peat, a feat previously achieved by legends Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer at Tennis Paradise.
The stakes are high, the competition fierce, and both champions must fend off deep, talented fields in pursuit of their historic milestones.
Surface Switch: Laykold Courts in Play
One major talking point heading into the 2025 BNP Paribas Open is the transition from the traditional Plexicushion surface to Laykold courts. Laykold, which has been the official surface of the US Open in recent years, is known for its slightly lower bounce and faster play.
The desert conditions at Indian Wells will still be a factor, with the dry air and potential wind affecting ball movement. Players must adapt quickly to the new surface, which also featured at last month’s Abu Dhabi Open and will be used at the upcoming Miami Open. How the switch impacts the style of play and potential upsets remains to be seen, but it adds an intriguing new element to this year’s competition.
A Can’t-Miss Tennis Spectacle
With the sport’s biggest names competing, historic records on the line, and a new court surface to navigate, the 2025 BNP Paribas Open promises to be one of the most compelling editions yet. Whether courtside at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden or tuning in from around the world, tennis fans won’t want to miss a moment of the action in Tennis Paradise.
