The USTA Mid-Atlantic Foundation has strengthened its leadership ranks with the appointment of veteran attorney Tonya M. Esposito as an at-large member of its Board of Directors, signaling continued investment in governance, community growth, and long-term accessibility initiatives across one of the nation’s most active tennis regions.
Esposito serves as administrative shareholder of the Washington, D.C., office of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP and co-chairs the firm’s Antitrust Litigation & Competition Regulation Practice. Her legal background spans complex regulatory and consumer protection matters across industries, including financial services, health care, real estate, retail, and pharmaceuticals, with extensive experience working alongside federal agencies and state attorneys general.
The USTA Mid-Atlantic Foundation oversees programs and initiatives throughout Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia, focusing on expanding participation and positioning tennis as an accessible lifetime sport. The organization supports community courts, youth development programs, and grassroots events designed to promote physical activity, social connection, and character development through tennis.
Esposito’s appointment reflects a broader trend across racquet sports organizations to incorporate leadership expertise from outside the traditional sports ecosystem. Legal, corporate, and governance professionals increasingly play a critical role as foundations expand partnerships, manage philanthropic initiatives, and scale community programming.
Backed by one of the world’s largest law firms — Greenberg Traurig, which operates across more than 50 global locations — Esposito brings strategic oversight experience that aligns with the foundation’s mission to grow tennis participation while strengthening community impact across the Mid-Atlantic region.
As tennis organizations continue emphasizing access, inclusion, and sustainable growth, leadership appointments like Esposito’s underscore the importance of cross-industry expertise in shaping the next phase of racquet sports development at the grassroots level.
