Selkirk Sport’s investment in identifying and developing emerging pickleball talent has produced its first promotion to the company’s top sponsorship tier, with Brazilian professional Rafa Lenhard moving from the Sparta Program to Selkirk’s Elite Pro roster.
Lenhard earned his initial Selkirk contract at the inaugural Sparta Combine in September 2025. Over the following year, he progressed from regional qualifiers to the upper levels of the professional game, highlighted by a PPA Main Tour bronze medal in Daytona and a victory over world No. 1 Federico Staksrud. His new agreement makes him the first athlete to advance from a Sparta Pro contract to Selkirk’s highest level of professional sponsorship.
For Selkirk, the promotion provides an early proof point for Sparta, which the Idaho-based pickleball equipment company created as a more structured approach to athlete recruitment and development. The program uses standardized performance metrics to identify prospects and provides selected players with financial compensation, equipment and brand support as they pursue professional careers.
The model gives Selkirk an alternative to competing exclusively for established stars in an increasingly competitive athlete-sponsorship market. By identifying players earlier in their careers and supporting their development, the company can potentially build longer-term relationships with athletes before they become fixtures on the major professional tours. Lenhard’s promotion is the first tangible example of that pipeline reaching Selkirk’s invitation-only Elite Pro team, which includes established names such as Catherine Parenteau, Jack Sock and Rachel Rohrabacher.
Lenhard, who represents Brazil internationally, also plans to use his growing profile to promote pickleball in South America, potentially extending the value of the partnership beyond the U.S. professional circuit.
Selkirk is adding a media component to the story as well. Selkirk TV plans to release an original documentary in November chronicling Lenhard’s transition from tennis to pickleball and his progression from the Sparta Combine to the Elite Pro level—turning the program’s first graduate into both a sponsored athlete and a showcase for Selkirk’s player-development strategy.
