Pro Padel League Secures $15M Series A as Institutional Capital Targets Padel’s U.S. Breakout

The professionalization of padel in North America continues to accelerate, with the Pro Padel League (PPL) announcing a $15 million Series A funding round led by Rick Schnall—a move that signals growing institutional confidence in the sport’s commercial trajectory.

The investment, which follows a $10 million seed round in 2025, positions the PPL to scale beyond its current 10-team footprint across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Capital will be deployed across three critical areas: league infrastructure, player development pipelines, and an expanded event calendar designed to elevate padel as a spectator product in North America.

Schnall’s involvement brings more than capital. As an NBA owner, his entry underscores a broader trend: traditional sports operators and private equity are increasingly viewing emerging racquet sports as scalable media and franchise assets. That perspective aligns with the PPL’s team-based model, which mirrors established U.S. league structures and is already producing rising franchise valuations.

At the competitive level, the league is investing in long-term talent development through PPL II, a newly launched feeder system designed to create a sustainable pipeline of professional players. The initiative reflects a maturing ecosystem—one that is moving beyond exhibition-style events toward a fully integrated competitive framework with compensation, rankings, and progression pathways.

Commercially, the PPL is leaning into sponsorship and media as primary growth levers. League leadership has already secured multi-year partnerships and is expanding its event slate, with the 2026 season set to include stops in major North American markets, culminating in a championship event in Miami.

The timing is notable. Padel’s global participation has surged in recent years, with strong adoption across Europe and Latin America now beginning to translate into U.S. market momentum. Investors are betting that North America represents the sport’s next inflection point—similar to the rapid rise seen in pickleball, but with a more internationally established foundation.

For the PPL, the Series A is less about short-term expansion and more about establishing padel as a durable, media-ready sports property. With institutional capital, team ownership growth, and a formalized development pathway now in place, the league is positioning itself at the center of what could become the next major wave in racquet sports.
