Luxury Developments Embrace Experiential Sports Amenities
The convergence of luxury real estate, hospitality, and pickleball has reached a new milestone with the debut of what is being described as the world’s first floating pickleball court. Inflatable Island Co. has delivered the custom-built court to Sole Mia, the large-scale waterfront luxury development in North Miami, creating a highly visual amenity that reflects the growing role of racket sports in destination lifestyle projects.
Installed on a floating platform within Sole Mia’s seven-acre Crystal Lagoon, the court transforms one of South Florida’s most recognizable residential water features into a playable pickleball venue. The project was developed through a collaboration between Inflatable Island Co., Sole Mia, and the development’s hospitality partners, positioning the installation as both a recreational attraction and marketing centerpiece.
The floating court utilizes Inflatable Island Co.’s proprietary marine-grade inflatable platform technology, designed to create stable, playable surfaces on water while maintaining portability and flexibility. Company executives said the project highlights the expanding demand for experiential sports installations that blend entertainment, social engagement, and destination branding.
For Sole Mia, the addition reinforces a broader trend among luxury residential and hospitality developments increasingly incorporating pickleball as a core lifestyle amenity. As developers compete to differentiate projects in crowded markets, sports-focused experiences are evolving beyond traditional fitness centers and tennis courts toward more immersive and shareable concepts designed to attract residents, visitors, and social media attention alike.
The installation also reflects pickleball’s continued expansion into nontraditional environments. Over the past several years, the sport has appeared on cruise ships, rooftop venues, luxury resorts, entertainment complexes, and mixed-use developments. The floating court concept pushes that evolution further, creating a hybrid sports-and-leisure attraction that aligns with the hospitality industry’s growing focus on experiential programming.
As competition intensifies among resorts, residential communities, and lifestyle destinations seeking to capitalize on pickleball’s popularity, projects like Sole Mia’s floating court suggest that the next phase of facility innovation may be defined as much by experience and spectacle as by the courts themselves.
